drift
Commissioned by Stockland for Highland Reserve, Gold Coast. The curatorial directive for this commission is encompassed by the phase ‘circles within circles’. The sculptural forms and compositional movement is inspired by this community ethos. As individual sculptural forms each element turns freely on their own 360 degree axis, as well as travelling in orbits around each other. As clusters they drift across the lake surface in graceful arcs. Made from mirror stainless steel the works respond to the omnipresent elements of sun and moon light, akin to the lakes own reflective surface, whilst the petals act as sails propelling the forms across the lake. The ever-changing composition of the work creates a diversity of possibilities, a focal point of speculation, whilst drawing attention to the interplay of the wind and light on the lake’s surface.
