The Block QUT 2004

Thumbnail for video #1

PoP is a time-based interactive work, investigating the participatory nature of the audience, the conceptual frame of Relational Aesthetics [Nicolas Bourriaud], emergence and transition of space, and the Kantian Sublime.

PoP is an artwork that is activate by the audience interacting and popping the balloons, as well as existing active phase. During the ‘event’ phase the sounds generated are transmitted to a small scale model of the work, situated outside of the gallery space; which also presents it self as the artwork. This configuration displaces the idea of a singular physical site of an artwork to two simultaneous sites. The audience has many different experiences of the work at different times in the life of working, according to where they physically are and when they are physically at either location (pre or post the event phase, inside or outside the gallery).
